The team specializes in creating a safe and encouraging space for women to share their concerns or goals.

What are women’s health treatment options?

After a comprehensive psychological evaluation, your AG Psychiatry provider develops a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is incredibly useful for all women’s health issues. Virtual sessions of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or interpersonal therapy (IPT) help you understand your symptoms, and your provider can diagnose a mental health disorder.

During sessions, your provider helps you develop healthy ways of thinking and processing your concerns. They encourage you to release and work through shame, loss, depression, and anxiety.

If you’ve just had a child, they may encourage you to seek help from friends and family and allow time to take care of yourself.

If you have PTSD or a trauma or stress disorder, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and prolonged exposure therapy (PET) encourage you to confront and then manage your past traumas.

Your provider may recommend support groups to help you feel connected and uplifted,  as well as meditation and journaling.

Medications

Antidepressants like Zoloft®, Prozac®, Paxil®, and Effexor® enhance mood and stress levels. They can improve psychiatric disorders during and after pregnancy, eating and mood disorders, reproductive transitions, and PTSD.

Benzodiazepines like Xanax® and Valium® help with anxiety that accompanies any mental health condition, but you should use them temporarily as they can be addictive.

Especially if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, your provider discusses the possible risks and benefits of psychiatric medications.
